Alberta

The six Alberta paintings revolve around a recurring figure. Across the series, this body appears in outline or partial form, emerging through layers that are repeatedly worked and disrupted. Alberta is neither fully declared nor fully erased, but held in tension between visibility and withdrawal.

Line operates as both structure and interruption. Broken and insistent, it moves between describing the figure and fragmenting it. Scribbled words and marks are embedded within the surface rather than placed above it. They function as material gestures, overlaying the body with another register of inscription. Colour is restrained and worn into the ground. Muted yellows, pale pinks, and greys are stained, scraped back, and re-entered, allowing earlier states to remain visible. The surface carries evidence of revision and return. Taken together, the series consolidates a language of abrasion, inscription, and partial figuration. The figure persists, but remains unstable, tested through repetition rather than resolved into narrative.
